Anybody do the 1099 route? Is it hot enough right now? I’m full time currently and paid well but haven’t had any fun projects lately and am looking to start a business. I’d like to match most of my current income by going the 1099 route as my business grows, my manager says it’s a bad time to be 1099 but my dev friends say he just doesn’t want me to leave. I am interested to hear from the community here.

The only time I was 1099 was to pick up extra income over my full time job.
no guarantees you will work 40 hours minimum a week, month after month, or have work lined up.
health insurance is very expensive, unless you are on someone else's policy that has a stable job.
no employee match retirement account
different rules setting your own retirement account up
need to pay yourself and submit all the federal, state, and Medicare payments during the year if you earn enough
no paid time off
100% at will
Id be looking for 20 hours a week at max, health insurance would blow yes, already does blow but that I am already expecting unfortunately, looking to build my own future through my business and have never really been into taking too much time off
