We moved into the neighborhood as the young happy couple everyone wanted us to be. Your house wasn’t close but you still heard us moan and gasp and shout with pleasure every time we had sex. But those days are long gone.

Now you hear us argue, you hear her belittle and go off on anything she can. You and I had made small talk as good neighbors do, but one day when we were doing yard work outside you had pried enough to get me to admit that she was the upset one. She was mad we married so young and now she regrets being locked into this lifestyle and takes it out on me.

“You poor thing” you say

“It’s okay, she has a work conference next week, I’ll have a week of silence finally, and you’ll have a break from the shouting” I laugh out through tired eyes.

I never realized how attractive you were until then. I touch your shoulder and sigh. Thanking you for letting me vent about it.

“Thanks hun, you’re a good neighbor” I squeeze your arm as I leave to finish my work.

One morning you wake up to the sound of her yelling in the driveway. As you look you see her packing her things into the car as I tiredly wave through the yelling.

You see her pull away and me go back inside, you watch her car leave and wait for her to be gone…
