Let’s talk about the heavy use of anxious, self-conscious characters

I’ve hit a rough patch in my readings this month and it just seems like every book I’ve picked up has been this exhaustive water-treading of some MCs inner dialogue questioning every fucking thing they do.

Some self doubt is great- believable. Relatable. But like all the time? The whole book is the MC talking themselves through every thought.

Give me a confident MC (even if they are misguided) I want more perspectives from characters like Cersei and Tyrion Lannister, Scarlett O’hara, John Grady Cole (All The Pretty Horses) any character from a Chuck Pahlanuik book.

Let’s discuss! What are your thoughts!

(I’m posting this for the third time in the hopes that MODs will actually allow me an opportunity to discuss books with other human beings without being fleeced)
