Aiming to make my first short film soon, but hard up on ideas...
Hey all, I've been lurking on this sub for awhile and have enjoyed everyone's tips, anecdotes, etc.
A couple friends and I are wanting to make our first short film ever very soon. This is new territory for us so we don't know a lot, but we are excited to learn. And we are well aware our first short film is probably gonna be crap lol. Having said that, I want to make it as good as I can of course. Since it's our first short, we are just gonna keep it at one single location (probably film it at one of our homes), limit the actors to 1 or 2, and do it on a shoestring budget.
I have a few ideas currently circulating but me being an overthinking perfectionist, I keep picking apart all my ideas. I've written several drafts of short screenplays for a bunch of ideas, but none of them are really sticking. I feel like I keep wasting time/delaying making something because I can't seem to come up with the "perfect" idea.
So what do you guys think? When you make your short films (/when you made your first short film), do you just make whatever and see what sticks? Do you only film concepts you think are top tier? Am I overthinking all of this? Lol. Would love to hear your guys' input! I feel like I am creatively bankrupt and every concept I come up with is either lackluster or has been done before. So hard to come up with something fresh and original!
