HD Problems, reallocated sector count drops whenever laptop is physically moved.
I have an HP laptop, and on startup, it lets me know there's an imminent failure. I downloaded a trial of HD Tune Pro, and it said I had two problems, Reallocated Event Count (100), and Reallocated sector count. The sector count started at 10, then dropped to 9, then down to 4, and now is in the red. However, changes in status seem to correspond to times I move the laptop. I'm not understanding what's wrong here.

sounds like you have a soon to fail hdd to the point the head is moving when you move the laptop. Time to do a backup and replace the drive while it still functions I'd say.
Rgr. This is a physical problem though, so I can just make an exact copy of the drive to a new one when it arrives and carry on?
I would recommend doing a complete backup as soon as possible since the drive might not last that long. If the head or one of the platters is moving of it's own accord, damage and loss of data is sure to quickly follow.
I've got the essentials backed up, I just really don't want to have to deal with reinstalling the whole works if I don't have to. I also don't have a windows CD or CDs for MS office, and I'm really not looking forward to losing hundreds of dollars worth of software if I don't have to. (It all came with the computer, I didn't pirate anything).
you should have an option to create a backup copy of the install if it's a modern machine. If not, ghost the drive rather than do a direct copy because that doesn't get all the data you need to make it a bootable drive. link to ehow to help you figure out how to do that.
Backup your licenses for Windows and Office. With a little hackery you can restore them. google this.
