I remember wanting one of these so bad. But I was poor back then. Well I'm still poor, but I was also poor back then.

The original mullet! Also that fork is gorgeous!

I was talking about this bike at a Trek shop a few weeks ago and the poor kid didn’t know what I was talking about.

He was like sure Gramps, a 26/29 with a dual crown inverted fork. Let’s get you back to bed.

Sixty Nine...

I fawned over it. I “kinda” built one. Except I wanted a 29er. Scored an almost unused Rig frame and found a converted SC32 to 29er. The almost unused Surly fork painted to match has been on the bay for six months. 😆

I really wanted one of these when they first came out, because I saw it as the new version of one of the actual original mullet, the Cannondale SM600 from 1985, which I owned way back... It just seemed cool.

So yeah, Cannondale had this thing beat by like 15+ years with their funky 26/24 mullet. Man, those Roller cam brakes sucked, though.

Daamn. Single speed and dual crown on a hardtail. You don't see that often

Man, those Maverick forks were so ahead of their time

Maybe this is a dumb question, but why don't mtn bikes run "upside down" forks like street motorbikes? Is it a weight distribution thing? Is it because the fork would be exposed to more contamination that close to the wheel?

Badass! And many love to hate on Trek but forget bikes like this...
