alternative to cricut design space? or cracked version of the software?

My Spouse got a cricut second hand about a year ago and only uses it every once in a while like maybe once every other month, and every once in a blue moon i use it to make a stencil. I just found out that shes paying monthly to access cricut design space and i hate the idea of paying a monthly subscription to use a machine she already paid for. especially when the software is as bad as it is.

I did search this but only found year old posts with no follow up.
