Just finished Aus Survivor 2017! Here are my thoughts (no spoilers for future seasons, please)
Hi All! As mentioned in the title, please don’t spoil any future seasons. I’ve only seen this and Aus Surv 2016.
-
Great season overall, the polar opposite of the “moveless” Aus Surv 2016
-
Season did suffer a bit in the merge from all the big characters being taken out early. Although the fact it was still engaging with the B-listers is a testament to the strength of the season’s casting
-
This season reminds me of 2 US Survivor seasons: Cambodia and Edge of Extinction. Like Cambodia, the post-merge alliances were super fluid (as opposed to 1 or 2 big alliances going at it). Edge of Extinction, with how they picked off all the massive targets one after the other in the post-merge. (thankfully, it was much better than EoE in many other ways).
-
After each episode, I’d go through the r/survivor archives and read post-ep discussion threads. These were always fun, and I randomly saw Owen from Survivor 43 commenting in one, years before his season aired!
-
I like Aus Survivor’s larger cast/longer episodes format overall, although the season did start to drag a bit, especially with some of the non-elim episodes. What do you all think of the Aus Survivor format vs US Survivor?
-
My favorite player was AK, sad to see him go pre-jury but I’m glad he wasn’t a super early boot and actually got to play.
-
How is this season generally seen by fans, and where would it rank if you put it along US Survivor seasons?
-
How is Jerrico seen as a winner? He seemed nice enough but it was kinda a random final 2. What US Survivor winner is he most like?
-
I feel Jerrico played a fine game, but also was very lucky that so many massive threats went out early in the merge–he could've been a goat had he been sitting next to some of the first 5 or 6 merge boots
