Performance Degradation on PlayStation?

I played for several hours in series quest mode yesterday and got all the way up to 7 with no issues. Today I started playing again and suddenly all the courses, even ones I played previously, have this obnoxious jerkiness to the music notes every few seconds and it seems to be throwing off the timing. Anyone else experiencing this? I am playing on PS5.

The only thing I can think of that I did differently today was I went into the settings from the home screen, then went to MS settings, and pressed X on BGM timing and went through that little timing wizard. That was the first thing I did today though, so I can't say if I noticed the issue happening before that. Only that it wasn't there last night before bed.

Might check your TV settings. I had the same issue and realized there was a game setting that was trying to smooth out the frame rate. Normally a great feature to make games prettier but it seems to cause stuttering on this game.

My TV does have motion smoothing abilities but it doesn't work on my PS5 input, or any gaming input for that matter. It's a newer Bravia, so it works with the PS5 and for gaming in general very well. It definitely looks like an in-game stutter and nothing TV related. But it's interesting you had stutter at all and managed to resolve it that way.

Been feeling like that on the Switch. It feels like notes are off by at least a whole beat

That may certainly be true due to timing settings. What I'm experiencing is stuttering mid-song. So in the middle of a sequence suddenly the notes will jerk around. Looks awful and throws off my score.

Same thing is happening to me. Randomly booted it up and now notes jutter like they're losing frames. I had to check old footage to make sure I wasn't going insane; yes, it is abnormal and on songs that were previously smooth.

No clue how to fix it. I rebooted the PS5 and the game and the issue persists. I may uninstall and reinstall.

Did you go through the little timing adjustment tool when it started? I'm wondering if that's the trigger. Uninstalling and reinstalling didn't work for me. What I did was adjust a few settings at the top of the settings list to anything other than the default. Then I pressed triangle to reset all settings. After doing a full close and restart of the game once or twice then it was fine and hasn't come back.

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I tried that and unfortunately nothing seemed to change. I uninstalled and reinstalled and ran the calibration a few times as well but the notes still have fluctuating framerates.

Which is too bad because it basically makes it unplayable on even a moderate difficulty, so not sure what to do here. If you have any other ideas let me know.

Perhaps I was unclear, I think the calibrator may actually be the problem. If you can do a settings reset and a few hard restarts of the game/console, and then stay away from the calibration entirely, that may do something. That's been my experience at least, could be no better than superstition. But the fact it went away for me at all I hope is some comfort, even if it is random.

ok this happened to me on switch and I thought it was just in my head. gonna close the game and relaunch to see if that helps

I've observed it a bit more and sometimes when it happens the triggers seem to actually jump forward slightly, and then back again slightly. Like it's trying to resync to the audio track or something.

Might be a memory leak issue related to the game engine, but those usually get better once you either close the game app or shut down the console

I have tried restarting the system a few times, including a hard restart and not just rest mode, and also just straight up reinstalled the game to no avail.

Damn… I hope you find a solution, it must be super frustrating… I’d try to mess even further with the BGM Timing option, double and triple check my TV settings, PS5 settings etc. Wish I could help…

Why don't you record video so people can see what you're talking about? It's literally one button press on PS4.

Recording a video on PS5 and then trimming it to the relevant portion and then getting that video off of my PS5 onto a physical media and then onto my computer and then uploading it to some hosted website where I can then post a link is certainly not one button press. I can go through that trouble later since you've asked, but I didn't include one yet because it really is obvious enough that someone would be able to tell if they also had it. I'm beginning to suspect it's an uncommon bug with a certain trigger.

It's really not as difficult as you make it sound, and you can in fact set it to automatically clip a 15 or 30 second video and upload that to twitter with a single press.

PS5 lets you save a recording of your gameplay with the touch of a button. Then lets you share that recording to youtube with another touch of a button.

Literaly takes like 60 seconds to do.

Well I tried, but the quality gets completely eaten by YouTube once it leaves the system to make it effectively useless. I'll try uploading again from thumbstick and computer to see if it helps.

I don't know what I did but it seems to have gone back to running perfectly again. I messed with a few random game settings before resetting all back to default with triangle, and did a few more close/reopens for good measure and now it's fine. I have reasonable confidence that it's some internal timing bug.

I’ve known jerkiness, sound issues, or hdr issues when they game isn’t closed out. Quick resume might be the issue. Overwatch 2 would sometimes not properly output at 120 when I did quick resume.

Sometimes the game seems to slowdown I restart and it fixes it usually
