Recommendations for a Story like Destiny (the Video Game)?

So I have always been a major fan of Destiny, the video game franchise. I’ve played since D1 launch, but have found myself having less time for video games lately. It is an MMO-lite, and you really need to give the game a few hours a day to keep up. As a supervisor at work, and a husband / new father at home, I just can’t find the time. Luckily, I’ve always read at least 30 minutes to an hour a day before bed, so I can always get reading in.

With the new expansion launching on the 28th, I am having major FOMO, so looking for a story in similar scope. For those of you that don’t know, Destiny is an epic space-fantasy. Guardians are tasked with defending the Earth from various alien races, and the lore is IMMENSE.

If anyone has any recommendations that I could sink my teeth into during these trying times I would be extremely grateful!

Note : I’ve read all of the ‘Halo’ books, and had a great time with those!
