XC40 2022 google maps CONSTANTLY freezing

since just before new year my xc40 google maps has been freezing and now its almost unusable.

if im on motorway i have to hope that continually jabbing the screen makes the app restart, but other than that im screwed. if i can hit a red light i can go to apps and force stop at least.

the car os is up to date as far as im aware, the os apps themselves are up to date according to playstore.

so at a loss of what i can do, ive had other apps that have frozen before, for instance the radio wouldnt change channel once but i had to then open up say spotify and then go back it would work.
