Vocalist’s IEM EQ of their voice
Hi all, pondering out loud as I don’t often have to heavily mix monitors but as I also sometimes sing and am still getting used to hearing myself through IEMs is there a particular best way to EQ vocals?
Obviously there’s a fair amount of bone conduction when you hear your own voice but when you’re open to the room it’s significantly different to when your got ears in. Given that bone conduction will probably handle more of the low mids, do people cut large amounts of that low mid out to help it sound more pleasing to the vocalist?
Clearly if mons are mixed from the FOH console, a soft split would be best so that the vocals aren’t messed up in the main mix compared to the singer’s ears.
Then the other musos can choose which version of the vocal they have for their mix.
