Advice on starting Adapalene,

I’ve been using Retinal on and off for the last 2 years and I’m considering switching to Adapalene. Will I purge even though I’ve used retinal before ? If so, how can I minimize the purging ? Also can I use Adapalene once a week then Retinal for the rest of the week ?
