Just a reminder

In this subreddit, we stay civil when people have views that we don’t agree with. This is a place for conversation and debate - not for reporting things you don’t like.

For those of you who know history - The death of debate is the death of democracy and freedom of thought. Please don’t forget that

This is promising. I like the tone.

I would personally go further and encourage that people avoid the downvote button because a person had a view from the other (“wrong”) side. Apart from anything, there’s a disproportionate power to that button, a handful of responders auto-collapse that post and effectively remove the opinion from view in the sub. There’s nothing civil about that.

It’s of course different if someone is just being nasty, as OP and Mod say above.

Trolling and shitposting (example: posting the word poop a million times for likes but it adds no conversational value) can still be reported and I will happily act on those things.

I will not remove things from someone because their political views are different from mainstream. If you have a problem with someone’s politics, debate them! That’s the purpose of this sub

I’d go one step further and encourage people to play the devil’s advocate. Argue and ask questions from the other side, in order to play out more scenarios. We can learn a lot by doing that.

Of course, keep it respectful and if it looks like you offended someone unintentionally, let them know you are just trying to learn and wouldn’t voice such opinion in a space outside of an intellectual debate.

Yeah debate is good and respect while debating is important. I agree
