question about adverbs
Hello all,
It is my understanding that when dealing with adverbs in compound tenses, the 'short' adverb goes in between the auxiliairy and the past participle, and the 'long' adverb goes after the past participle.
Maybe I am not understating exactly what the difference between 'long' and 'short' adverbs?
These examples that I found are 'short' adverbs.
Je n’ai absolument rien vu = I saw absolutely nothing
is absolument is a long adverb, no?
Il a légèrement menti = He slightly lied
Il a carrément insulté son patron = He downright insulted his boss
In any of these can we have the adverb after the past participle? Does that stress something else in the sentence, or just not work alogether?
------------------------------------
In the below examples (where I found with the adverbs after the past participle)
could we not have them in between the auxiliaire and the past participle?
I suppose these would be long adverbs?
Elle est venue rapidement = She came quickly
Elle lui a répondu méchamment = She answered him in a mean way.
Il a immédiatement quitté Paris = He left Paris immediately
Could we not have: Il a quitté immédiatement Paris = He left Paris immediately? Does that change the sentence completely?
Maybe I am missing what is being stressed here?
Many thanks in advance.
