Study abroad in Istanbul -- which other countries to visit?

Hey! I will be studying abroad in Istanbul for 8 weeks starting mid-March. I'm hoping to travel to nearby countries in East/Central Europe and possibly the Middle East on the weekends (leaving Thursday come back Sunday night). I'll have 5-6 weekends free I believe, and 7-10 days after my program is done.

The other few weekends will be spent on excursions around Turkey, so I'll definitely be able to explore the country I will be based in. I'm from America and likely won't have the opportunity / time to visit some of these places later, so I'm trying to make the most of the opportunity to see lesser known places in East Europe / Central Asia / the Middle East.

For each place, I will have roughly 3-4 days to explore, which I know isn't much. Here's some of the places I was thinking about visiting in total. I know I won't be able to visit all of them:

  • Athens / Mykonos / Crete in Greece (I probably won't be able to visit all 3)
  • Petra, Jordan
  • Sofia / Plovdiv in Bulgaria
  • Tibilisi, Georgia
  • Bucharest, Romania
  • Sarajevo, Bosnia
  • Belgrade, Serbia
  • Budapest, Hungary
  • Vienna, Austria
  • Prague, Czech
  • Kazakhstan
  • Uzbekistan (but I would need a Visa)

With the 5-6 weekends I will have free, here's my plan (not in order):

  1. Athens / Mykonos in Greece
  2. Sofia / Plovdiv in Bulgia
  3. Bucharest, Romania
  4. Tibilisi, Georgia
  5. Petra, Jordan
  6. Sarajevo, Bosnia

After the program, with the 7-10 days I have free, I was thinking of exploring more of Central Europe, given that much of it is connected by train.

Do any of you have any advice of places I should visit? Is anything on my current plan not feasible? Is there anywhere else you would recommend instead? Thank you!
