Renting in Victoria - Can I tend to the garden in a common area?

Renting in a block of 6 units. The front facade of the building has minimal landscaping (basically just a tree with some small shrubs).

I’d like to put down lawn seed.

I’m guessing this would be a problem as it’s “changing the appearance of the property”.

The other argument would be this is a Body Corp maintenance issue (if they want a dirt pit they’re responsible for keeping it a dirt pit ie: poisoning weeds/grass etc).

Thoughts ?
