Advice on sick cat
Hi all. My cat of around 10 years (she's been in my care for two years) was diagnosed with Feline lymphoplasmacytic rhinitis (FLPCR) as of last year, and the year before that feline asthma. She's tried cyclosporine in the past but that did not help in controlling her nasal and eye discharge. She responded well to prednisolone so that is what she's been taking thus far.
She started to develop a lump in her throat over two months ago and it has become enlarged. The vet did a needle aspiration biopsy in the beginning of this month. The results came out as probable moderate to large lymphoma. He admitted he could've done the surgical biopsy for a more accurate reading but said he didn't know if he should risk it. This was upsetting to hear because my cat was off of the steroids for a week (tapered it gradually) and the lump got larger and firmer as a result. Not only that, in order for us to actually see an oncologist we need a definite prognosis.
We're going to see an internist in a week. On Friday, she started to hide and the days prior she's been eating less and less. Yesterday, I noticed her gums were very pale. I asked my vet for advice and he suggested I see an emergency vet. I've called several places and they do not seem to be helpful. One emergency vet facility said I would probably be shooed away since she's still breathing normally.
I’m contemplating on taking her to the ER tomorrow but I’m not sure which is the best to go to in NYC. Or if I should wait until next week to see the internist.
Any advice? Thank you 😔
