Hero Discussion of this Day: Faceless Void (12 October 2012)

Discussion

Darkterror, the Faceless Void

Darkterror is a master of time and space, often bending it to his will. He can Time Walk to jump forward small distances, causing the movement of enemies around his destination point to be slowed. He is also able to passively revert quickly to a past moment to avoid damage, and lock time on a target to bash them without missing a beat. Faceless Void can rip open a Chronosphere in space time to stop all units inside it, except for himself, to wreak havoc as he pleases. While he is initially weak, you should never underestimate a hero with great damage potential that also has the ability to stop time. Never.

Lore

Darkterror the Faceless Void is a visitor from Claszureme, a realm outside of time. It remains a mystery why this being from another dimension believes the struggle for the Nemesis Stones is worth entering our physical plane, but apparently an upset in the balance of power in this world has repercussions in adjacent dimensions. Time means nothing to Darkterror, except as a way to thwart his foes and aid his allies. His long-view of the cosmos has given him a remote, disconnected quality, although in battle he is quite capable of making it personal.

Time Walk

Rushes to a target location while slowing the movement and attack speed of all enemies along its path for 3 seconds.

LevelManacostCooldownCasting RangeAreaDurationEffects
1120197003003Moves the hero to the targeted location. Any unit he passes through or is near when he lands has their Attack and Move speed slowed by 25%

  • Faceless Void is invulnerable while moving using Time Walk

  • Units around a 300 radius of where Void lands will be slowed

Darkterror tears a hole in time, passing through Claszureme, and appearing back in an instant.

==

Backtrack

Passive

Faceless Void dodges damage by jumping backward in time, eluding both physical and magical attacks.

LevelManacostCooldownCasting RangeAreaDurationEffects
1-----Has a 10% chance to dodge any instance of damage
2-----Has a 15% chance to dodge any instance of damage
3-----Has a 20% chance to dodge any instance of damage
4-----Has a 25% chance to dodge any instance of damage
  • Stacks with evasion

  • Any damage type can be dodged

Darkterror sees what has yet to be seen.

Time Lock

Passive

Adds the chance for an attack to lock an enemy unit in time, stunning it and dealing bonus damage. The duration is twice as long against creeps.

LevelManacostCooldownCasting RangeAreaDurationEffects
1----1 second (2 on creeps)Gives a 10% chance to stun a unit and deal 40 bonus damage with each attack
2----1 second (2 on creeps)Gives a 15% chance to stun a unit and deal 50 bonus damage with each attack
3----1 second (2 on creeps)Gives a 20% chance to stun a unit and deal 60 bonus damage with each attack

  • Magical Damage

  • Stun works on magic immune units

  • Does not stack with the item Basher

  • Time Lock deals twice as much damage when it procs on a target in Chronosphere

The strike of the Faceless Void lands with dimension shifting force.

Chronosphere

Ultimate

Creates a blister in spacetime, trapping all units caught in its sphere of influence. Only Faceless Void and any units he controls are unaffected. Invisible units in the sphere will be revealed.

LevelMana CostCooldownCasting RangeAreaDurationEffects
1150120 (60*)6004004 seconds (4*)Pauses time inside the range of the Chronosphere, units are stopped and unable to perform any actions
2175110 (60*)6004004.5 seconds (5*)Pauses time inside the range of the Chronosphere, units are stopped and unable to perform any actions
3200100 (60*)6004005 seconds (6*)Pauses time inside the range of the Chronosphere, units are stopped and unable to perform any actions
  • This ultimate can be upgraded via Sceptre, * shows the upgraded effects.

  • Affects both units and buildings, both allies and enemies

  • Reveals invisible units

  • Enemy heroes don't have evasion while they are trapped in Chronosphere

  • Does not affect units owned by the Faceless Void (Illusions, Summons)

  • Couriers are unaffected

When a rift opens to Claszureme, all poor souls caught within will likely never return.

Recent Changes from 6.75/6.75b

  • Time Lock deals twice as much damage when it procs on a target in Chronosphere

  • Faceless Void can no longer be frozen by any Chronosphere!!

Findings (not-factual information as above):

I find Void to be one of the hardest carries in the game. With farm and his Chronosphere, he can dominate and decimate an entire team. To surprise an unsuspecting team, Time Walk in from the fog and Chronosphere them, if you're lucky you might even catch all of them in the sphere. Time Walk can also be used to close the gap between you and the enemy you are chasing as well as escaping. When using Chronosphere, try and make sure not to trap your allies, you could just kill all them or some of them by allowing the enemy to reach or attack them like that. Also somehow get luck on your side (like Ogre Magi) proccing your passives alot.

Here is a dicussion about passive abilities and interaction/behaviour with Chronosphere.

Wilco- has a tl;dr on Void here. Although published 9 months ago, is still applicable.

A discussion has been made here about countering Void's ult. But the main way to do that would be to disable him while he's inside, ie keeping your distance from the team to begin with.

Dota Cinema has a video guide for Faceless Void on YouTube.
