So I checked the price of everything on Thomann right now for me (except for the two boxes on top of the Novation Controller which I don't recognize).
€11,474.54 (not including tax) - in USD that would be $12,107.71. You probably didn't pay that much since a lot of prices have been bumped over the last year because of inflation etc.
Honestly I've probably spent at least that much myself on my gear over the years I've just never had the guts to add it all up!
I added up just what I actually paid over the past many years for my main Guitar-pedals-Amp setup and it was 5K, and would be a lot more to buy it all up front today. Doesn't include all my other guitars, synths, effects, eurorack, cables, mixer, etc etc.
Reminds me to make sure my renters insurance numbers are up to date :D
That’s now where near enough for a house deposit
Hey thats close to $20k canadian!
I have all mine in a Gooogle Doc spreadsheet with a running total, and then I can also move things to another section when I sell them and that keeps track of what I paid originally to make sure I'm getting most of my money back with a minor fun tax for using it.
I keep serial numbers in there as well when they have them. I also just want to know the total cost for insurance since I have it insured and make sure I'm under what I'm paying for coverage for.
So like half of one used Harley Davidson motorcycle. That’s not really that much. Is like 1-1/2 months of university for my kid.
The Novation looks like it might be a Novation 61SL.
Do you play music, or just stand around drooling at it?
I could play music?
What even is music?
At least he didn't spend on speakers or mixing/patching.

In today's housing market? Not even close to a down payment, so you're good. Keep doing you.
Closer to a months rent in some cities :D
I love how this site has made us fengshui as fuk and custom furniture makers 😂
Are the two elektrons not too far away or up high for you? I feel like their workflow requires for you to shrimp over them for hours on end.
As somebody who has a million elektron boxes, definitely. My back and shoulders hurt just looking at this.
Nah, it’s perfect positioning. For reference the top of the elektron boxes sits at my clavicle height. The sub piggy also brings the controls in front of the sub 36 controls. For standing performance for my height it could not be positioned more comfortably. I’ve tried everything - jaspers stands, homemade stands, Frankenstands. This is the one for me :)
Rad! Awesome setup.
I play Elektron stuff live and I can't even look at this without my shoulder hurting. It doesn't matter if you are tall or not, if those things are not level on a table at waist height it's physically painful after one hour.
Lol
I’ve observed that in many of these setups the mixer isn’t visible. What are you using?
No mixer currently although I think that will change soon as I would like to bring in guitar and vocals more easily without needing the mic for everything. Currently just a daisy chain from sequential -> mpc -> digitone -> a4 -> rytm -> foh
Ahahah nice to see I’m not the only one daisy chaining gear
It's because in this setups the owner rarely needs to mix anything.
You're joking but i am 'going through a phase' where I am connecting boxes (synth, groovebox, drummachine, ect) directly to a single speaker.
It's a cool experience.
Every once on a while I move some stuff from the studio to my room and do that yeah. But in my home studio when I do that I just use the patchbays. It's pretty common to not have a one single and only wiring but I think when you get to 15k of gear you can sacrifice at least one or two sound making things and get a small rack, a patchbay and some cables to tame the setup. The time you save setting things up and the versatility for playing it in different ways is worth it.
Like for example in this setup he'll probably want to move the Heat to different boxes. The MPC I think you can also use as an effects unit.
Also the A4/Rytm DAC and mixing don't do it justice if you are playing it in a studio setting with something like the Prophet. It will sound hollow on the bass and bit reduced. Specially if you use the analog drive per track on the Rytm. For playing live it's ok but those boxes seem cheap until you realize you need 8 more mixer or ADC channels. Again yeah this is being a bit of a purist but we are speaking about throwing car money on basically toys and then posting on the internet for people to "rate" it. I wouldn't say this to a friend that's excited showing a setup to me but this guy deserves my pedantry.
I understand your point.
I only got into patchbays a few months ago and they're really cool.
I see no succulents. 6 out of 10.
You can always sell gear for 80% of what you bought it for. That’s my favorite copium.
80% for best pro gear, 50% for prosumer gear, 10% or 15€ for hobbyist gear like cheap beginner keys.
Really? usually I sell everything at 30% discount.
This is market situation in Finland
Or more, depending on if you paid full retail or got the standard 10-15% off. Granted, those greedy bastards at reverb and ebay gonna take their chunk if sold through them ;-)
eBay and Reverb sell a valuable service. Reverb is an amazing value when you factor in the reduced shipping cost, and risk reduction while setting higher market prices than local sales. No one is stopping you from selling for free on Craigslist or putting a note on a laundromat message board.
Not sure what reverb charges since so far I've only bought from there, but have heard numerous complaints about their recent fee increases. As for ebay, they're now up to a ridiculous 14%!!! I do agree that both services deserve reasonable compensation for the reduced risk factor and protections but 14% is excessive. I really hope Sweetwater's used 3rd party marketplace takes off. Their 8% is much more reasonable and great to have that 0% store credit option as well.
Sweetwater made their fees the same as Reverb despite it just objectively being a shittier platform. Not having the best interface is excusable considering it’s new, but not reflecting that in fees is kinda a dick move.
I've got some amazing deals from Reverb as a buyer.
Love the tidiness , what stand are the ot and ar sitting on?
Subpiggy!
Rate my vomit.
Where's your computer?
In my office where I work not where I play :)
I would award you with gold, if I didn't spend it all buying synths.
Now this is the circlejerk post I come here for!
Down payment…on an apartment!?
An almost all analog set-up (minus the Digitakt). I have the Analog IV and RYTM. How is the Elektron Heat integrated into your set up? Waiting on my Pro-3. It can't get here fast enough. Beautiful set-up.
Thanks 🙏 I just got the pro 3 a few days ago myself. So far super super happy with it. Heat for me is the end of line, direct to FOH, as well as a resonant high pass filter, master limiter, and clean drive / warmth. It’s settings never change, I just use it as a filter having dialed in the rest of it.
Are you saying the Analog Heat can serve as a dedicated filter? If so, I didn't realize that... are the filters comparable to anything inside the famed Moog filters or Sequential filters? I just thought it was dedicate crush, compressor, and EQ processor. I know it can do so much more.
Thanks again.
Yes besides the EQ there’s an array of filters from low pass to band, notch, and two high pass options.
They are fantastic filters. I love the elektron sound.
Thank you. Seriously, now, all of a sudden, I'm considering this.
I've noticed that every good setup (including my own) has a Novation SL MkIII.
How are the keybeds on those?
I can't say it's the best but decent. Overall it's a great controller.
Not Arturia. Those frogs put better keys on hundred dollar controllers than some companies do on devices they are four figures. For the record like the person you asked I also have the novation and very much like it.
Honestly the perfect midi / cv controller. My only gripe is I wish there was a row of displays above the faders / button like there is below the knobs
Like you can buy property now without cash in-hand.
Who am I to rate them, they are in the position to rate me
Hashtag winning!
4/10
I said rate the setup, not me
Who needs a place to live when you’re on tour as a bedroom musician anyway
I think someone here works out of a converted school bus, so.
Home is where the roof and four walls protect the electronics.
That’s a great bumper sticker
