I knew the fastpass game but now I feel like a newbie. Leave Tuesday and need advice.

MDE, Genie & ILL

As the post says, I knew and played the fastpass game well. I haven't been since they introduced the new genie plus and lightening lane.

What do I do?!?!?!

I know I need to buy the day of but I can't reserve until 7? So I have to buy before 7 so I can make a selection at 7? And I also want to get in a boarding group for guardians at 7 too. So how do I manage all of this?

We are not staying on site, there for 3 days with first day being epcot. Single park per day passes. We are going with my parents who have a restricted annual pass. They go there often for an hour or two but don't do any tech stuff and don't use the ap. Other two are my kids who are too young to help.

Really want to get on the new rides of guardians and ratatouille.

YouTube Earscouts. He takes you through multiple days in different videos of the parks. Rob is outstanding. He made our trip so much more enjoyable with his advice.

The best case scenario here would be to have two people working at the same time at 7am if possible, but if you can’t do that I would immediately grab the Guardians VQ and then get a Remy LL as soon as you finish that. I don’t like rope dropping Remy because it just gets inundated with people coming in from International Gateway. Spend that rope drop time knocking out all the Future World stuff.

wake up at 6:45 and buy genie. make sure everyone in your group is in the same “party” in the app and that you’re managing everyone’s plans (when you buy genie you’ll select everyone or they will be already preselected.)

at 6:59, go to your tip board and to epcot attractions. drag down at the top of the screen repeatedly to refresh. at 7:00:00 go straight to remy and click check availability. then just keep clicking through the buttons to confirm. don’t pause at all here- just click click click. you should get a time for remys.

for guardians, since you will already be in the park just join the second virtual queue drop at 1pm. that one sticks around longer generally and should definitely be accessible as long as you’re already in epcot.

once you ride remy or two hours after the park officially opens (whichever comes first) you can select your next LL return. test track and frozen generally are the next to run out of return times after remy.

you’ll pick it all up very quickly after your first day or your first few return times.

Step 1.

Apply for acceptance at mechanical engineering program, preferably MIT.

Step 2.

Obtain mechanical engineering degree, preferably from MIT.

Step 3.

Download MyDisney app.

Step 4.

Stay up until midnight EVERY DAY on your vacation and purchase Genie + for whatever arbitrary amount they charge that day.

Step 5.

Wake up ridiculously early at repeatedly refresh your my disney app to get on rides that you already paid for anyway and then pay more for individual lightning lanes on top of the park ticket, genie, genie + and everything else you already paid for.

Step 6.

See a bankruptcy lawyer.

Earscouts Channel on YouTube has the best G+ tutorials. Seconded by Mammoth Club.

Search the subreddit, there are sooooooooo many posts asking for explanations and many nice people taking the time to explain it every time.

We leave Saturday and booked our trip last minute. Our travel agent tried to explain genie+ to us, she said if you’re up late you can buy it at 12:01 before you go to sleep. Then wake up for the 7:00 and try to get your first LL. She said if you can’t get the virtual queue for guardians at 7:00 they’ve found it easier to get a slot at 1:00 when they open the second virtual queue.

Disney is starting to feel more like work than a vacation. I commented on another post about how I don’t want to wake up earlier than I do for work to rope drop and her LL and you would have thought I went on a momma slapping spree from the hate I got. I was told that Disney just isn’t for me, and I should just go to the beach. We used to be passholders and we’re masters at doing Disney how we wanted too with picking our fastpasses for when we’d be in the parks.

You can choose: you can rope drop or wake up at 7 to get lightning lanes, or you can wait in line for a little bit longer during the day. It’s a trade-off and you get to decide which is more valuable to you. People who wake up early are usually sacrificing time in the parks too because they typically leave around midday. There has never really been a time in history when you could arrive after the park has opened and count on short lines, it has always been this way.

But with fastpasses I could arrive when I wanted ride 3 rides that typically have long waits, then ride the rides that normally short lines like small world, magic carpets, and watch CoP or philharmagic to cool off, then move jump in lines while people wait for a parade or fireworks. We went often and had a system down where we rarely waited more than 20 minutes to ride something and got in all the rides we wanted to each trip.

I much prefer this new system to waking up at 5am two months before my trip to ultimately not get FP for the most popular attractions and spend the next two months constantly checking MDE to possibly find them. That was a broken system. This way, everyone is on the same level playing field every day and it’s a blank slate each day of your trip.

I agree so much. It is crazy to do all of this. I wish you could choose to buy genie plus in advance, even if you couldn't make choices until the day of. And the virtual queue things are terrible.

Spend a little time watching AllEars on YouTube’s videos about it. molly does a great job of explaining it and making it as simple as it can be! The good news is once you understand it- it’s super easy to navigate during the day.

Personally I have never had any issues riding everything at Epcot via standby and just knowing the traffic patterns.
