Sounds like you may be a part of the 5/3 club.

I still haven’t found a solution.

really starting to think it has more with the testing servers. There just isnt enough testing servers out there for 5/5. I'm in the socal area. From server to server my results are drastically different. Some servers I can only get like 1/1, others i get like 3/5 or 5/3 or 5/4.... it's really alllllll over the place. I don't think until 5/5 becomes more common, will we see test servers put any real effort into meeting our needs.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Surprised nobody hosts a well-known Speedtest on a very well-peered 400gbps+ backbone somewhere. If they do, I haven’t found it.

It's not the servers causing the 5/3 issue. You want to pick the closest Frontier test server so you're not relying on peering.

The closest Frontier server is 20 miles away. I usually get around 4/3 on that server. Others like clouvaire and gsl. I get 5/4. Same distance. The only test server I get 5 up on is nittel. And it's consistent. I'm at a point where servers in different states give better throughput even tho pings are shit. IE I can get 4/4 from servers in Texas with 20+ ms ping.

Pretty elite club to be in, imho. I’ll take it if it’s the best I can get. 😂 Tech coming out Monday to bring the TP Link router they offer and troubleshoot to try to get my to 5/5!

That's a 10Gbit server, so it should hit full bandwidth assuming the E2E path is uncongested - we also open connections to additional servers if the test determines we're resource capped on the primary server. I'll take a look into this, but it shouldn't be network bound in LAX and ASH.

I'd cross validate with the native apps - they have less transport overhead than the browser sandbox.

Congratulations! You are now the bandwidth of the entire internet, circa 1998.
1999 can now exist again in an alternate universe, because of you.
The time cycle is complete.

AOL CDs will again be circulated, but not now. Back then. Inside your newly created dimension.

Thanks for this. 😆

Or you are having issues with Frontier. When i got my upgrade I was able to download at 5gig however my upload would max ag 2gig no matter what i did. A few days later they came out and swap out the box and boom! 5/5 up and down!

I’m hoping it’s easily resolved when the tech comes Monday. I’m not sure if it’s my connection or local servers can’t handle all the bandwidth. I’m inclined to think the latter.

Noiceeeeeeee! Now if I can just get that kind of upload!

Just tested to the same server you used and only 4813/1244. I don’t understand.

Just ran a new test, and I have been down graded to 5/4
https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/d/521851893
I am directly connected to the ONT at this point, I use a Unifi UDP-Pro but it seems it can not handle 5/5 at all.

1
cryptosageOP•

Same. Direct into a Ubuntu live distro desktop booted from USB and connected from ONT’s 10gig port to 10 gig Intel NIC. Oh well. Guess we are being whiny. Not like we can upload to many places at 2gig, even. Still nice seeing those shiny 5000 numbers. 😂

I believe it's capable of up to somewhere under 3Gbps combined upstream and downstream if using the NAT, firewall, or malicious traffic monitoring. It can act as a 10Gbps switch between its two ports, but only as a switch.

Ubiquiti really needs to up its game, with 5 and 10 Gbps residential services combined with WiFi 7 getting approved in another year or two, the UDM is getting long in tooth. They should offer a device which handles 10Gbps for more than 2 links, and with the remainder at 2.5Gbps. It would probably double the price, but people buying 5Gbps services aren't likely to object.

That said, some of our older hardware firewalls couldn't handle links over 2Gbps of traffic, so it's not a complete surprise.

5g download is an available speed with Frontier?

2
cryptosageOP•

Yep!!! As long as the fiber buildout has happened in your area.

For not seeing the proper speeds, I would recommend you are checking drivers and possibly even firmware for your 10gig network cards. Aquantia Chipsets (Marvell owns them now) had some firmware updates (NOT DRIVERS) to their cards that improved speeds on them. I would definitely take a look at this. I believe those servers are working fine.

Using a GTek card with an Intel X540 chipset. I’ll have to see if there are any firmware updates available for it. Thanks for the tip!

Try Google Cloud server on speedtest net

1
cryptosageOP•

I’ll try that! Thank you for the heads up!

1
SynXacK•

Do you have the server ID for that?

1
cryptosageOP•

Looked for it on the site Speedtest, couldn’t find it. Have to Speedtest-cli it, I am guessing. Like the other redditor asked, do you have the ID?

1
cryptosageOP•

Guessing the google cloud servers are too far from my location. Can’t even hit one after looking them up. Neither by specifying manually with an ID or FQDN.

5/5 club ayyy lol

Lol. Lucky.

5/3 club over here, but nothing to scoff at other than people with 5/5 treating me like I’m a pleb. 😂 😂 😂
