The Unforgiven (Drell Vanguard, Incisor)
Alternate Title- Exxtrooper, I'm Sorry You Got An Aneurism Today.
Preface
Well, I challenged myself (thanks to exxtrooper's general demeanor on "superior classes" and this comment) today if I could actually pull off a Drell Vanguard with an Incisor. I had already toyed around with a sniper Drell Vanguard, but the Incisor actually works pretty well with a certain playstyle in mind.
I feel bad to interrupt the Bloodpack Mastery series already, but the next guide coming out will be on the Vorcha Soldier that, on paper, acts like a power-based class.
Introduction
First off, this Drell should not be played like a typical Vanguard. Combining Biotic Charge, which forces close contact, with a Drell, who have low barriers that make him easy to get kill in close quarters, was a bad idea to start with. You will need a promotion or respec card before you play this build as there will be no points in Biotic Charge. Instead, play this class like an Infiltrator by staying in the background and containing enemies from afar.
Now to go point by point on powers and weapons for this build
Fitness
Survivability and speed are quite nice when you have to stay far away from enemies that can easily kill you. Hence, the evolutions were taken to maximize those two factors.
Drell Assassin
You'd think that with such a weapon like the Incisor that you would want to maximize weapon damage. That may be so, but the Drell Vanguard still has two other powers besides Biotic Charge, those being Pull (which has an evolution that benefits from power damage directly) and Cluster Grenades (which has good base damage, but extra damage is always nice).
Comparatively, first two weapons bonuses (7.5% damage and 20% headshot) aren't as good as the power damage bonuses. 7.5% is a small amount to increase and the odds are the Incisor will not be getting enough headshots to warrant that evolution. The last weapon damage bonus was taken because pistol weight evolution is worthless as no pistol is equipped.
Cluster Grenades
The evolutions were taken to maximize damage over a large are. The third shrapnel was taken as it allows for more total damage, but over a larger area (50% more shrapnel means 50% more damage and force in total, but not per grenade) and that means three power combos can be set off per Cluster Grenade throw.
Side Note- Cluster Grenades are awesome due to their accurate/inaccurate throw depending on the user and can SET OFF ALL POWER COMBOS. Quite nice.
Cluster Grenades are useful to when enemies come to close or to set off power combos. Typically this allows the Drell to escape lethal situations with few scratches.
Pull
The crux of the build along the Incisor, Pull makes any enemy with pure health at your mercy. The idea is to use the Incisor to wipe out Shields/Barriers and then use Pull to expose them, either to Biotic Explosions or more bullets.
As for choosing the evolutions, the total duration after 6 points is fine, but pulling an area is nice if you miss a little and can juggle around a few basic troopers if need be. The important part is that the Lift Damage is useful to finish off enemies while focusing on another. The Expose evolution requires active damage from a teammate, which may not occur when hunkering down.
In addition, Pull can stagger enemies through shields and force Phantoms into their bubble, allowing the Incisor to take cheap shots at them.
Incisor
Probably the part that makes everyone perplexed is "why the Incisor?" First off, it is quite light, so it's ok to add one of the two new mods (in this case, the High Velocity Barrel) and still have a decent weight. Secondly, the Incisor primes with ammo very well, so power combos can easily be set off. I recommend Disruptor or Incendiary Ammo to help strip off shields/do extra damage/stall enemies so that they can either be Pulled (if health) or be easily damaged by a Tech Explosion (in the case of armor).
I recommend the basic scope mod as well because it helps tighten the Incisor shots and does not take up weight like the Thermal Scope or High Velocity Barrel.
Conclusion
First off, I should clearly be more antagonist to exxtrooper, as it creates some great ideas.
Secondly, even with all those new kickass kits, there are still old kits that perform quite well despite their age.
Finally, I would like to reaffirm the idea of putting the Big Bad List of Builds on the sidebar. It's a good idea to help those who want help with ideas for a class and should slow down those "I JUST GOT Y KIT HOW DOES I PLAYLOL?" posts significantly. Salsa, I'm talking to you here and I'm certain I'm going to be a broken record on this until it gets put up there.
Anyways, when you stop your laughing, post in the comments below. This build is half-serious, half-silly, 100% fun. Keep that in mind when posting below. Now have some fun and finally get those Drell Vanguard and Incisor points that you desperately need.
