Why not « einen Vogel »

Hello ! Quick question because I’ve looked on Google and cannot find an answer.

I was answering a Duolingo prompt to translate « a duck is a bird » :

I’ve learned before that bird is masculine : « der vogel » and not « das »

Then why is « eine Ente ist ein Vogel » the correct answer, and not « eine Ente ist einen Vogel » ?
