Is there anyway to hide a props model on the grid?

I don't know if this is the actual way to center things on brushes but this is the way that usually works for me, however the model of a prop sometimes blocks the view. Is there anyway to disable the model from appearing? I know I could just change the model to nil and do it but I was wondering if there was another way. Thanks.
