new to the game

Is there any significant advantage to waiting a few weeks and getting ootp 24 at full price vs getting last years game half off? I haven't been able to find the difference. Also traditionally is this a game that's a must buy every year? I generally buy sports games every few years because the value of year to year is so minimal. Thanks in advance.
