Buying a used car which I might have to sell in a year
Hello car nerds, I'm looking at two cars today and could really use some help. Obligatory apology for if this is the wrong place to post. I'm pretty much sold at getting a mazda 3 hatchback. Today I'm going to test drive a 2014 grand touring with 140k miles priced roughly at $10,000, and a 2017 regular/touring with 110k miles priced at $12,000. Here's the caveat... there's a 50% chance I might move out of the country next year and have to sell this same car.
Assuming they're both in good condition (I'm bringing both to a mechanic for a pre purchase inspection), I'm basically wondering if spending the extra $2,000 is worth it for a newer car and lower mileage in the resale value? I like the trim/look of the 2014 actually, but I'm wondering about the stigma of a car with just over 150k miles if I have to sell it next year?
Any and all help would be super appreciated, thank you!
