I dunno. It's baffling. Something like this screams "I was never a gifted student, nor was I born into privilege, so I'm going to take a working-class 9-to-5 and die in my hometown, but there's a cauldron of profundity simmering just below the surface." Honestly, I sort of feel for this type of guy. I have a great career and family, but I certainly haven't achieved all of my dreams and am well into middle age. It's a tough thing to come to terms with. And yet, in my lowest moments, filled with self doubt and desperate for affirmation or even just human contact, I would realize the intense, anus-puckering cringe induced by something like this. The utter cluelessness is something to behold.
