Types of Untradable Items in Rocket League

Win

Have you ever thought about what your Rocket League account’s value might be?, even if you traded away all your tradable items and got rid of all your credits?

I've been thinking about this for a while and every time I thought my list was complete, I remembered some other type of untradable item. I'm sure there's still many types I'm missing, but I'll keep updating this list to try to make it as complete as possible!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Items from Decryptors

Before free-to-play (f2p), there were keys and crates. And there were "free keys" called decryptors that Psyonix would give out every now and then. They could be used to open any crate you own, but the item coming out of it would be trade-locked.

Scammed items replaced by Psyonix

If you legitimately lost items through a scam or being hacked, it's possible to file a support ticket with Psyonix and get them replaced by trade-locked versions. Interestingly enough, there were people trying to do this over and over with Alpha boost, until Psyonix had to release this statement.

All player titles and anthems

Player titles and anthems are not tradable. There are quite a few interesting player titles, including those from stream drops, tournament wins, season rewards, and ultra-rare and unique personal achievements (such as marrying your Rocket League 2s partner or collecting a lot of pigeon toppers).

All DLC items (before Free-to-Play)

Before free-to-play, Rocket League used to have a type of store that had DLC items from various franchises. This included a few Batmobiles, which could be purchased separately (I bought the 2016 Batmobile).

Console Exclusive Items

There are a few console exclusive items which are not tradable, such as the Mario and Luigi cars on Nintendo Switch and the exclusive reaper wheels on Xbox and Playstation.

Season Rewards

Every season of Rocket League had some competitive season reward items. There are also titles given to Grand Champion and above in each game mode.

Avatar Borders from Leveling up

Players get avatar borders for leveling up, up to a maximum level of 1900.

Items given to RL customers when it went Free-to-Play

Once Rocket League went free-to-play, Psyonix had to give something to their existing paid customers to make up for the fact that the game they paid for was now free. Amongst others, players got:

  1. Dieci-Oro wheel (Gold Dieci)
  2. Golden Cosmos boost
  3. Faded Cosmos boost
  4. EST 20XX player titles
  5. All the common items

Unrevealed Blueprints

After the free-to-play update, crates become “unrevealed” blueprints, which could be opened to reveal a random blueprint from that crate. These unrevealed blueprints are untradable.

Unpainted items from Rocket Passes

These are one of the main incentives to actually purchasing a Rocket Pass - many of the more interesting items are the unpainted ones you get before Level 70. Some examples:

  1. Poof explosion
  2. Octane Huntress and Octane Kingtress
  3. Most of the unpainted cars (Unpainted civics are pretty sought after by people who think they are tradable)
  4. Most of the unpainted wheels
  5. Some of the best paint finishes (like EXO)

Items from Item Codes

There are lots of different types of item codes out there. Here I’ll list out some of the types of item code sources, and examples of items you get from them.

  1. RLCS live event pro wheel codes
    1. Emeralds Pro
    2. Decennium Pro
    3. Mothership Pro (interesting article on its history by u/EXP_EffeTitanium)
  2. Toy codes (although some are tradable)
    1. Zag toy in their pull-back racers gives you cold fusion and ZT-17 wheels (these ones are tradable)
    2. There’s others out there, please let me know if you know their names
  3. Random item codes from Psyonix (most are inactive now)
    1. Included things like shazam, popcorn, etc
    2. Aeromage Hatch was given for entering RocketLeagueLive code in 2022
  4. 7/11 event codes, which included some epic items such as:
    1. Slurpee decal
    2. Slurpee boost
    3. Etc
  5. NASCAR item codes (there was a limited supply for getting the NASCAR bundle for free)

Item Shop Items

Shop Exclusives

These are items that only appear in the item shop (although some items start off as shop exclusives and then get added to a blueprint series later). For me personally, I find it much easier to purchase item shop exclusives, especially if they seem unlikely to be released later. Many gold items and special color versions of items were released this way as well.

Some notable examples:

  1. Black Octane
  2. Black Fennec
  3. Gold/Black Dominus
  4. Gold Takumi
  5. TW Dominus GT
  6. TW Octane ZSR
  7. TW T-Rex explosion
  8. TW Nightmare explosion
  9. Black Mothership Pro Inverted
  10. TW Holographic Draco / Gold Draco / TW Saptarishi Inverted / Gold OEM / Gold Spyder
  11. Gold Lotus / Gold Pigeon / Top Hat Anniversary Edition
  12. Tiara: Multichrome
  13. Dragon Wings: Roasted / Dragon Wings: Frosted
  14. Fancy Formal items (Decal, wheels, topper, antenna, etc)

Shop Non-Exclusives

Most items that come into the shop are also attainable through trading. However, there are some that make waves through the trading community because they are much cheaper in the item shop than they are through trading.

Some notable examples:

  1. TW Octane (came in December 2022)
  2. TW Reaper explosion (and a few other painted reapers)
  3. TW Mainframe
  4. TW Dominus

Other Item Shop Tabs

There are usually several package “deals” in the Item shop for players to purchase multiple items that all end up untradable. Sometimes they are standard Rocket League items, but more than often they are partnership items with other car brands (Ford, BMW, Lamborghini, etc).

Free Item Shop Tabs

The shop often has a tab buried on the right which has some free items. They’re usually banners, but sometimes you get neat decals as well, such as the Pelé decal.

Esports Token Shop Items

There are decals and goal explosions that can be purchased with a different currency (eSports tokens).

Rocket League Event Items

In Game Events

Rocket league holds seasonal events every few months. Each usually has some interesting untradable items. Some examples are the Lofi Girl event that occurred in December 2022, and the Fortnite Llama-Rama events in September 2020 and March 2021.

Out of Game Events

These events required some entry or participation outside of the core game.

  1. Twitch Prime - Sep 2019
    1. Those who joined Twitch Prime and connected to Rocket League got some sweet exclusive items such as Nemesis car, TP19 wheels, Luster decal, and Tactical Nuke Goal Explosion (to blind other players)
  2. Fan Clash - Aug 2022
    1. Winners got the epic golden Ballistic Pro explosion
  3. Fan Clash 2 - Nov 2022
    1. Winners got the TW Nike FC explosion
    2. All items that came from the very rare or import drops were also untradable
    3. This event also had several cool items in the shop like the Nike Mercurial CR7 decal
  4. Jump Start - Nov 2022
    1. Grind games with friends to get the painted Manganese boosts

Cross-over Game Event Items

  1. Rocket League Sideswipe cross-over events
    1. MTRX: Inverted wheels
    2. Wow! Goal explosion
    3. Calculated goal explosion
    4. Inked player banner
  2. Fortnite High Octane event
    1. Whiplash car, wheels, and decals
  3. Fall Guys event
    1. Freaky looking player banner, wheels, topper, decal, and boost

Tournament Reward Items

Tournament rewards have always been hit or miss, but there were definitely some great items over the past few seasons. Although they can be traded up, none are tradable with other players.

Untradable Items from Streams

Most RLCS stream rewards are tradable (other than player titles), but occasionally there were special events where Psyonix gave away untradable items, such as the Patriarch Pros.

Random Items from Logging In

I’m not sure how many times this has happened, but I do recall Psyonix giving away the Argyled Egg item just for logging in on a particular weekend. This item does happen to be tradable. Is anyone aware of any untradable items that were given just for logging in?

Psyonix Mistake Make-up Items

On very few occasions, Psyonix messed up with people’s items and gave all players involved some form of repayment. One example of this is when Psyonix accidentally put a tournament reward, Righteous Gail, into an Item Shop bundle. To make up for this, they gave everyone who had a Righteous Gail from a previous tournament reward the Righteous Fail boost.

Please let me know in the comments if you think of any types I'm missing, or if there's any really good examples you think I should include.

Also - please share which of your untradable items you feel are the most “valuable” to your account (or just your favorite).
