Volus (Engineer) investment blood banker(Gold Proven Build)
The Volus. Controversial. Unique. Refreshing. Asthmatic. Lore shattering.
A lot can be said about the Volus, but we'll save that sermon for later. Right now I'm going to share details on how to turn that ball of wasteful space into an investment banker... of blood. Why trade stocks when you can trade lives for bullets?
The Volus Engineer is probably one of the most fun classes you can play right now. It's challenging and requires you be on your game at all times, to both support your team as well as dish out hell on Irune.
Using this build, I've skyrocketed right up to the top of almost every game I've played. You have to weigh your options and always pay attention to your surroundings. You are a support class with options.
Recon Mine. Nothing in recon mine. Sure, it's helpful. It strings along the trodden path of being supportive of your team, but the cooldown can be too much at times. You need options, and recon mine doesn't allow that.
Proximity Mine is the bread to your Shield Boost butter. Run in, proxy mine, trade stock in the life or death market. You are going to spec for: Radius. Damage Taken. Damage. With this, you can stagger enemies, do a fair amount of damage, and support your team even better. Maybe someone went down and there are enemies everywhere? Cloak, run in, proxy mine, revive, shield boost, run out.
With any other class, Recon Mine is standard fair, but the Volus is very closed off from the rest of the classes as he has no real melee or panic moves. You're going to need this stagger and it's going to do a lot for you.
Shield Boost. This doesn't even need an explanation. The Volus needs Shield Boost to keep his team alive and so you're going to want to get the entire bottom row: Shields Regeneration *Protection.
You are the medic here, it's up to you to stay close to your team and keep them alive. It's actually quite easy to juggle between this and Proximity Mine, and figuring out how to master those two powers and when to use one or the other will be the difference between first place and dead at round one.
Volus Training. One sided, in my opinion. You're going to want to ignore weapon damage and some power damage. You aren't Brutus Beefcake. You don't need weapon damage. You need a maximum cool down so you can dish out the Shield Boost and Proximity Mine as much as possible. And so, get: Damage & Capacity. Shield Boost. Weapon Weight.
With this, you can take heavier-than-usual weapons with you, and the plus side, is even if you don't want to take them, light weapons will be even lighter.
Fitness. No, don't laugh. You're going to put everything into health and shields. You are weak, but not useless, and by putting all of the points into fitness you can ensure that you aren't that guy who dies every six seconds and immediately kicked out of the next lobby. Durability. Shield Recharge. Fitness Expert. Despite what you may be thinking, it does make a difference. I seem to die 30 times a game without fitness at all, but with it, I can do very well to hold my own no matter the threat.
Weapon. Oh yes, you'll be running the light but deadly Piranha. I'm running the Piranha X and I've got a cooldown of 176%. That ends up being a recharge time of 3.33 seconds for Proxy Mine and a 4 second countdown for Shield Boost, which is just the right amount of time to unload with your weapon and then use a power. Attachments: Shotgun smart choke, Shotgun high caliber barrel. You will need those two in order to work effectively, as the piranha has very poor accuracy.
If you have it, you also have room for the Acolyte, which at X adds NO additional weight. So you are running with a free weapon that can further your support role with the ultimate shield/barrier stripping device in the game. I'd suggest bringing in a Pistol magazine upgrade, Pistol high caliber barrel.
Strategy. Stick next to team mates, but don't feel bad about venturing without them. You are the IRS of murder, remember that. Proxy mine, aim for the head, shoot and then retreat back to your team. Remember to be careful of people who run out into the open a lot, you are very durable with Shield Boost, but not superman(With a well coordinated team, you are in fact superman). Always play it safe, stick near walls and be wary of your surroundings.
You have a light-melee tactical cloak that you can use to scurry away when things get bad, and you can also use this to sneak your way into a firefight, and to revive teammates. Your heavy melee is a defense bubble that seems to ward of almost all damage(Just remember to keep the button held down, it lasts a while).
Equipment. Adding a Targeting VI III will change how you play. Proxy mine + two shots with the piranha to the head is a kill on all lower leveled enemies. I also suggest you run with a Shotgun Amp V(This is the gear bonus, not the weapon bonus). It adds a lot of damage to the class and it is noticeable to play without it. With the added headshot bonus on bosses, the Piranha+VI III will further your rank as chief adviser of the national department of decapitation.
I don't play with any other equipment, what with me being low on shotgun amps and whatnot, and I manage to run at the top of the scoreboard in every game as I have more opportunity to revive teammates, keep them alive and complete money rounds.
In closing. You are an offensive support class with this build. Run in, proxy mine, unload, shield boost, run out. Stick near walls to minimize getting shot, and ALWAYS pay attention to your surroundings, more with this class than any other. Geth will not give you a chance, and hunters will kill you before you even know they are there, even more so than usual. Your tac cloak makes you invaluable in terminal rounds, and reviving your team. The bubble is good to use to block the warp of Banshee's. It doesn't seem to block the lunge of a Brute, however.
