Migrate windiws os from old m.2 sdd to new m.2 ssd with only one m.2 ssd slot

Open | Hardware

Bought a new Samsung 1 TB m.2 ssd to replace my old 250Gb m.2 ssd (my c drive) . How can I migrate the os when I've got only 1 slot. Samsung migration work with an enclosure via USB ?

  1. You can get an apprpriate USB enclosure:
  • If it's a SATA drive get a SATA enclosure
  • If it's an NVMe drive, get a NVMe enclosure
  • Or if you don't know or don't want to take any risks, get a SATA + NVMe enclosure. The very latest enclosures with for instance the Realtek RTL9210B have this functionality.

Alternatively if you already have an external drive with enough storage capacity you can write an image of the (whole) SSD (not just the C: partition) to that drive, swap the drives and restore the image to the new drive.
