This sub changed my life - thank you

Other

A couple people here were kind enough to refer me for the job I have now and now after just a couple months, I’m being offered more opportunities within the company. I can hardly believe it.

To the two people who served as my references (you know who you are), I’m still incredibly grateful for the extra good word you put in for me despite my lack of experience in IT.

To all of you, don’t give up and keep helping each other here if you can. We all know that it’s normal and sometimes of out our control to have gaps on our CV/work history, and we have to play the game. Help each other and have faith.

I like to help people, on reddit. A lot of people on this network have gone out of their way to help me with advice, their time, kind words etc. I always want to do the same for people whenever I can.

That's awesome! But my question from reading this sub is , what filler jobs do people put down? Is there somewhere I can ask that?

I'm also wondering this. Do the BeMyReference redditors pretend to be current/former employees of the fake filler job you put down in your resume?

If we have gaps in our resume, is it even alright to make up and put down fake filler jobs? I assume that's what this sub is about? Or is it only for get people to be your reference for real jobs that you did?

I have a gap in my resume from not working and am unsure of what to do about it. I was considering putting in a random construction / warehouse job as a filler for those years of not working and thinking of using a friend as a reference for that made up position (he actually did work in that position as a cash job in the past and uses his supervisor from that job, who's his cousin, as his own reference).

I ended up setting up an extra email and phone number for my fake filler job and reference, and the number of interviews I am getting has gone up to 1 or 2 each week, its ridiculously unfair that employers seem to immediately bin you if you aren't currently employed

Oh ok, so you plan on being your own reference and using a voice changer in case they call you? Was your extra email a gmail address or filler company-specific email address?

Also, did you write your resume such that your fake filler job is the one you're currently working at? I was thinking of entering a fake filler job for 4-5 years of gap but showing that I left there 6 months to 1 year ago and being currently unemployed. But maybe, like you said, I might have more luck if I show that I'm also currently working there. The problem is it seems more scary to list myself as currently working somewhere that I'm not. Instead of calling my fake reference, for example, they could then just call the fake company directly and ask if I'm currently employed there or not.

I took 'inspiration' for my filler job from my extend family one of whom did construction stuff for a few years before doing warehouse management and essentially had his own business, if you make it something small scale especially things that wouldn't have a big social media footprint in order to exist, it's a risk and it depends on the industry your applying to the level of the job you're going for and the companies own processes some may not even call references at all

If you have a gap you can say you had an illness, or make up a job as long as your "former supervisor" is willing to take a call from hr. You can write your own reference letter if he/she is on board with it.

That's so good to hear. That's why i love this community.

One of the most heartwarming moments during my recent Reddit activity was when I wrote an email filled with words of encouragement for a user and they were ultimately able to secure a job. You never know where people are at their stage of life. I had nothing to do except type some words but really made me happy for them!
