Burial at Sea
Her laugh still echoes through this storm
A sirens song
As I stand stoic
Feet planted
Atop these rotten, bile soaked boards
The lonely, cracked lighthouse ashore
Almost becomes her smile
This ship sails heavy
Holding all I can remember of love
The tides stopped turning in my favor
Long ago, when her timid peace came crashing down
These rough seas call for a rough man
This floor splinters, this mast cracks
These sails fold and swallow my dead
These knees buckle under everything she’s left behind
I suffer in silence, choking on everything left unsaid
Truthfully, I’m to die upon this sinking ship
Swallowed by the salty curse she’d gifted
Still, I find God
In the peeling scars that never seem to heal
In the blood I’ve spilt
In the love that I have given without cost
I find God
I’ll face this burial at sea with haste
Wish upon the northern star, to remember her face this one last time
And I’ll call that judgement enough
