Mods: how’s this spam and the daily posts of one dudes artwork not? It’s from The City’s website and it’s 100% about NYC.

I no longer live in NY, but a friend of mine has their first play premiering on Soho Playhouse next Thursday and I want to support them. I am buying a couple of tickets and giving them away to whoever wants to go to the theater. Just DM me if interested 🙂

The amount of y'all out here in winter gear like it's not the middle of summer already is absurd.

You can't blame us for not being able to predict NYC weather. A few days ago it was sweltering and today it's so fucking cold and windy I need a jacket.

SEEKING INTERVIEW SUBJECT: MIN WAGE WORKER. My name is Aria and I’m a student journalist from NYU. I’m working on a radio news story about whether NY state will raise minimum wage. I’m looking for 1-2 minimum wage workers who can talk about their opinions and whether their min wage income is enough for living in the city. Bonus points if you’re a service industry worker but that’s not a requirement! This piece will air on WNYU 89.1 FM Radio. If you’re interested, please message me ASAP or email me at [email protected].

Halo top has free ice cream and a mechanical bull at 182 Lafayette street.

Full disclosure: I’m working at the event. But it’s hot out so come grab some ice cream.

For some unknown reason, Vitaliy Konoplyov's case (the driver who caused the terrible crash in Bensonhurst) doesn't appear on WebCrims, though he still hasn't been able to pay his bail so he appears on Inmate Lookup. His next scheduled court appearance is next week.

Andrew Abdullah, who shot Daniel Enriquez on the Q train, was ordered to undergo psychiatric treatment and his next court date is in 2024.

NYC Middle School decisions went out yesterday. Happy that our son got into Mark Twain! I hope it is as good as people say it is. We will need to move to South Brooklyn as we live far away. Any idea where we should start out apartment hunt?

City Hall Post Office Remnants ?

I was at the south end of City Hall Park where the old City Hall Post Office and Courthouse used to stand and found these stones, no plaque or indication of what they are or why they are here. Does anyone know what they are from ?

NYC311 & Other recourses like this I should know about?

I plan to move to NYC soon and discovered 311. I think it’s an interesting idea and connecting liaison to resources. I’ve never encountered anything similar before even where I live currently.

Are there any other NYC resources that I should be looking into? I’d love all feedback and suggestions!

Resources for what in particular?

Anything really!! I’ll be new here so I’m open to everything.

Nypl - The NY Public Library has so many resources that any summary here would be too long, but I'll try...book clubs, talks with famous people, exhibitions, video game tournaments, etc... It's my go-to for so many things.

Now that we've been in the legal/decriminalized marijuana market for a while, I was wondering if there were any good spots or recommendations for stores that sell THC-infused drinks? Or any restaurants/bars that serve them, but ideally looking for cans/bottles to buy.

2
Caracharias•

I've seen this on the Housing Works dispensaries website, most of the legal dispensaries probably sell them.

Cookies opened up a shop. Look up the dispensaries but there is a spot in new rochelle that sells infused drinks to. You got smoke shops that may have space they use as lounges or bars where they do that type of stuff

They need to start creating hybrid buildings which cater to both residential and commercial needs.

After Covid, NYC lost a huge amount of business. The companies still exist but they abandoned the large commercial spaces and offices because they just didn't need them. The costs outweighed any perceived benefits.

We now have huge commercial spaces which are empty and need to be used.

They should consider converting these places into commercial/housing hybrids.

Imagine a building which had two separated entrances. One on one side would be specific for residential living. It would have an elevator and staircase to take you to the upper floors which were housing units. The number of floors would depend on community need.

The opposite side would be the commercial entrance for the office or department store. You could have an department stores, laundromats, restaurants, office space, etc. (you name it, it can be used for it) within the lower floors.

The end result is we create a more functional and livable mixed-living space which would serve both local economic needs for business and housing options in a city where they are few and far in-between.

The cost associated with converting buildings to this use would be a drop in the bucket compared to funding and planning a project from scratch.

You know how many agencies and permits you’d have to deal with? You know how hard it is to even sell hotdogs on the sidewalk? Good luck converting a whole 50 story building

New York would loved that.

They'd make a killing in new permits.

6th Ave bike lane is starting to get congested. Ironically it needs more lanes. Ironic because is the same thing car people demand of highways and other ways.
