Is there a way to calculate damage taken/recoup from Storm Secret in PoB?

Help

Trying to see if I can create a CWDT loop build that isn't based on Ward but uses Trigger bots instead.

I'm a pea brained pleb, so I don't quite understand how to calulate the damage taken manually.

Like many videos say that HoT hits 8 times a second, but on the quick spreadsheet I made it shows its only 7 per second.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you trying to cast a ton of skills really fast? CwDT requires a ton of damage, so you're probably going to have a hard time if youre using a skill that scales with cast speed.

Do you have the maximum roll for your Storm Secrets?

You actually need 50% on both for HoT to hit at exactly 8 times per second. If your HoT frequency isn't quite as high, it's entirely possible that you end up with being hit 7 hits per second instead.

I haven't played with it myself, but my understanding is that both rings cause a hit individually, so the damage per hit and the timing remains the same, you'll just end up taking twice as much.

This is an example configuration to let PoE do the hit damage calculation for you.

Otherwise you could check the relevant modifiers yourself by hovering over the values in this section.

the wiki says a total of 90% across both rings is sufficient to maximize frequency due to server tick rate, is it incorrect / out of date? https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Storm_Secret

My understanding is that it should be incorrect because it's a frequency rather than a cooldown.

This is a matter that is extremely difficult to be certain about. The best way to test it would be to count hits (presumably with 100% chance to poison + The Golden Rule as usual) over a long period of time so that there'd actually be a significant difference in hits between 90% increased and 100% increased frequency.

The way cooldowns work is that they're only checked once per server tick, but hit rates etc. still work in a much finer mesh, otherwise the whole thing about the exact attack rate optimisations for CoC and Spellslinger etc. wouldn't be necessary in the first place.

The precision for attack rates is at least in milliseconds if not even smaller. Because HoT is defined as a frequency, I would have expected it to be exact rather than bound to server ticks.

However, PoE "works in mysterious ways" sometimes, so perhaps the internals for HoT work more similar to cooldowns. I haven't seen any tests that verified that HoT was affected by server ticks however.
