I haven't been up-to-date on the whole Pachycephalosaurus headbutting situation, what's the deal with that now?

I've heard Pachycephalosaurus didn't headbutt it's rivals so what exactly was the dome head for? Would it have thwacked predators instead? Was it just a display? I need to know!
