Best Travel Card - low spender looking to start spending much more on travel

General Questions/Possibly relevant information:

  • General overview on points sharing/the process of purchasing travel via points. When I log into the Chase portal now with the Freedom Unlimited, there's often far fewer flights available than on Kayak, with worse layovers. Are the options better with premium cards or different banks?
  • I'd like to start traveling a bit more, and tend to plan travel when I find cheap flights and then build the rest of the trip around that. I'd like for my travel expenses to start looking something like this:
    • 2 weeklong trips, $2000 each, sometimes double if I put another person's travel on my card
    • $1000 in rental cars outside of those vacations yearly (mix of trips nearby and daily rentals for errands)
    • 2-3 short domestic trips, probably max $400 each all in
    • Up to $1500/year in commuting expenses
  • I live in NYC without airport/airline preference.
  • No matter what card I open, it will be paid off in full every month.
