Black Tooth: Alive, Dead or just Taking a Nap??

Hello There!
So I have this question about the Simba Tyrant Black Tooth. It is said that he died in battle during the 90s against the newly formed Ahadi and that his Pride kinda lost power because of it. But I have been reading the 20th Anniversary material, and it's written in a way that implies he's still around, even referencing a new Simba woman from another land that holds council with him.

I just want to clarify if this isn't a writting mistake or maybe the writters wanted to keep him around for use by players. Do you guys know something?
