Why doesn’t slapping a fly in mid-air cause it to die or be seriously injured?

Unanswered

Flies and other insects can be slapped and just continue flying around, seemingly unscathed. It only takes slapping it against another object (squishing) to kill it. Why doesn’t this amount of force do nothing to a small organism, but can cause significant pain to a human?
