My experience with arc a750 using a budget cpu
I have been playing around and testing game on my arc a750 and have noticed that the driver have some bad cpu driver overhead even in DX12. I have been posting my results on r/intelarc and asking people their experiences in certain games. One example horizon zero dawn. I’m getting pretty meh performance using a ryzen 5 5600. Asked people and a lot with similar CPU’s get similar performance but people with a 7th gen ryzen CPU’s get significantly more. One person with a 7600 claimed 80-100fps.
Noticed similar weird performance in uncharted 4 but haven’t asked for others experiences.
Another example ac origins I’m getting like 35fps average while Intel themselves has tested the game to be playable at 65fps (tested using a 13900k) in response when a user reported his issues. Also a few users with higher end CPU’s like a 13700k reported around 20-30fps higher then me.
Also if you search in the sub Reddit for how cyberpunk 2077 has been running on people’s system there are pretty mixed experiences. Those with less cpu power get less performance. Have also tested cyberpunk briefly and was disappointed. Lowering settings or enabling fsr made almost no difference.
On a rtx 3060 or Rx 6600 the difference between a cpu like a 5600 would be a lot less compared to something higher end maybe 5% at max.
I have mentioned a couple DX12 games but most issues are with dx11 titles. Gpu usage in most dx11 games is no where near 100%. At first I thought the drivers for dx11 might just be bad but now that I think about it driver overhead as the main cause makes sense. Dx11 doesn’t utilize the cpu as much as DX12 and vulkan do and with the driver overhead I kinda makes sense that dx11 performs pretty bad. Also why dxvk can significantly boost performance like in dying light for example.
Intel and other benchmarkers need to stop testing their drivers with a 13900k or a similar amd counter part and also look at lower end budget CPU’s because people buying a €280 arc a750 most likely won’t be pairing it with something that high end. Those reviews and performance numbers out on the internet comparing against a 3060 and Rx 6600 are imo misleading for consumers. I don’t have a 3060 or Rx 6600 but I bet that if someone tested a 3060 or Rx 6600 against a arc a750 using a lower end gpu the table will turn into nvidia and amd’s favor and then price to performance won’t be looking to good for arc.
