Marketing Thoughts

We’re in a small remote vacation town that is soon to get a rental car company (there was one a few years ago that went out of business due to lack of customers). We have a small regional airport (only 1 flight/day) but close to 1/2 of all flights get canceled. There’s also Ferry service to our town as well as cruise ships; aside from that there’s road access, we’re at the end of a spur highway - we’re 300 miles from the nearest major city & 120 miles from the closest town with a (small) grocery store.

I’m wondering about taking flyers or business cards with picture & description of the vehicle to the local hotels and organizations that bring contractors. I’m wondering about a couple things:

1- Can we create a custom discount code for the renter so we know who referred them i.e. “HappyHotel01” “Hospital04” that would give the renter a token discount AND let us know who sent them.

2- What kind of reward would be appropriate for hotel clerks? What about organizations? Our local pharmacy, hospital, City bring consultants/workers in, it would probably be inappropriate to incentivize them with monetary/tangible rewards.

We’re considering maybe bringing a plate of cookies or muffins to TPTB at these organizations, like the City, the Harbormaster, etc. to educate them about Turo and to highlite our vehicle.

If we can’t do a discount code unique to our vehicle, how do you direct potential clients to your vehicle specifically vs Turo in general?

This is my son’s gig, but he’s not currently staying in our little town & if I’m going to be helping him out with deliveries, turnovers, etc. I want this to be as lucrative as possible. Mom doesn’t do stuff half arsed! Plus we originally financed the car for him & the more he makes the faster he pays it off.

Before anyone accuses me of enabling him…. He’s been VERY good at covering all bills, the Turo money has gone 100% towards only Turo related expenses & paying down the loan.
