How do I play quarter triplets against eighth notes?

Here's my understanding so far:

Eighth notes: One-and-Two-and

Triplets: One-Trip-Let

Together: One-Trip-and-Let

This image helped me understand that. All good so far.

But when the triplets are quarters, and the other side is eighths, the notes don't align anymore. What am I missing here? The piece is from Fade To Black by Metallica. This is what the bar looks like.
