What does the fox mean?

Not many things are meaningless in Fleabag and I'm sure that the foxes who chase the priest aren't one of them.

I know Hilary is a guinea pig on pourpose, they are animals who deeply suffer from loneliness (they can even die because of it). Also, I've read that Hilary represents her love and how disorientated she is now that Boo can't take it.

Meanwhile I see perfectly clear what Hilary represents, I'm struggling to find a explanation to the foxes that fit 100%. I've been thinking about something that he constantly tries to escape, even if it's not necessary bad. Maybe it's a representation of how overwhelmed he feels about things from laic people lifes, I mean, he chosed to stay away from marriage, certain tempations (not only sex) and many other things that laic people do and he still misses. Maybe it's laic temptation that will always chase him and he must avoid.

I know Fleabag doesn't have immovable meanings, it's made in order to suit almost anyone's feelings and emotions, but I want to hear your theories as well.
