[Question/Advice] Convince me to get a Mechanical watch (even though I already want one)
So, to start with, I love watching wristwatch restoration videos. I am somewhat of a watchmaker myself. I haven’t had any formal classes, but I have the tools needed to and have taken a movement apart and put it back together (more than once). I love the process of it. I love to hear the heartbeat.
Here’s the issue… I am a techie and work in IT. I currently have an Apple Watch that serves me in so many ways.
I work from home and wear noise cancelling headphones during the day. If my wife needs to get in touch with me, she’ll text me as I can’t hear her talk to me otherwise. The noise cancellation also can make it so I can’t hear my phone’s text tone go off. So, if my wife needs me, I wouldn’t hear my phone or her. When my Apple Watch vibrates, I do hear it.
I also use it a lot while listening to Apple Music in the car. I find it to be a lot safer to tap the face of my Apple Watch in just approximately the right place to switch songs rather than taking my eyes off the road to look at my phone.
Also, if I’m outside playing with the dogs and forgot to bring my phone, I can still check the weather and temperature for my stepson’s baseball game later that evening.
Needless to say, my Apple Watch gets used A LOT.
I really would like to buy a sub $200 mechanical (Seiko, Orient, etc.). But, with how much I use my Apple Watch, it makes it very difficult to justify the cost of a mechanical watch.
So, can anyone give me a good benefit to buying and owning a mechanical watch that can justify the cost seeing how much I use my Apple Watch.
