Prayer Request Thread - Holy Week
Well, here we go. The most important week of the church year, in which we commemorate Christ's passion and celebrate the institution of Holy Communion, and the final week of our Lenten observance.
##(Extra) Important Dates This Week (The whole week is important)
(Note: in wider Western tradition, no feast day can be observed during Holy Week or the first half of Easter Week. Sufficiently important feasts are transferred to the next available day)
Sunday, April 2: The Sunday Next before Easter, commonly called Palm Sunday
Thursday, April 6: Thursday in Holy Week, commonly called Maundy Thursday
Friday, April 7: Friday in Holy Week, commonly called Good Friday (FAST)
Saturday, April 8: Saturday in Holy Week, commonly called Holy Saturday or Easter Even
##Lectionary from the 1662 BCP (for Palm Sunday)
Collect: Almighty and everlasting God, who, of thy tender love towards mankind, hast sent thy Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, to take upon him our flesh and to suffer death upon the cross, that all mankind should follow the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may both follow the example of his patience, and also be made partakers of his resurrection, through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Lenten Collect (to be said every day in Lent after the Collect of the Day): Almighty and everlasting God, who hatest nothing that thou hast made, and dost forgive the sins of all those who are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of thee, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Epistle: Philippians 2: 5-11
Gospel: Matthew 27:1-54 (The passion according to St. Matthew)
Note that traditionally, all four passion accounts are read this week; Matthew on Sunday, Mark split between Monday and Tuesday, Luke on Wednesday, and John on Friday.
