Getting into turning pens

General Discussion

I have always loved wood working and dabbled for a while. I've always wanted to get into turning. My wife is really into fountain pens and I am thinking making pens would be a great intersection of our two interests. I was hoping I could get some advice on the questions below. I would still consider myself a novice with wood working and will take any advice you can offer outside these questions.

  1. Is there a small appropriate lathe for making fountain pens.
  2. Could I also use that lathe for resin?
  3. Would I need a drill press to drill a hole through the finished pen body to insert the hardware?
  4. Are there small table saws or something else that cut intricate little wood pieces safely?
  5. Are there particular woods that would be good for this?
  6. I have a budget for this but I since this is my first attempt to get into it, I'm not looking to break the bank
  7. Any good Internet or real life resources I should look into
  8. Any other advice I would be happy to hear

Thanks so much!
