Which route should I take?
Hello,
Over the past few months I’ve been researching about SWE and switching career. I’ve narrowed this down to 3 choices and I would like to get some opinion on which one is realistically the good one to take.
-
Stay at my current job and self study; making projects and apply to other jobs. However, I’m very stressed and depressed at my current position at a call centre. It’s like hell taking care of rude customers everyday, so if I can leave I would very much like to, but there are of course cons on other choices as well. I’ve been self studying for only about 2 months and is only starting to get into JavaScript basics, so clearly not enough to do much at all.
-
Quit and go to boot camp. Some say it worked for them some say it didn’t, it’s a costly and high risk choice. I’ve been looking into CodeWorks, and if I pick this route I will work hard, but given the current market situation I can’t help but wonder if this or self study is even a reliable way to go, as I saw some posts about people with high experiences even gets turned down, and I might be jobless for a long time.

Quit and attend college. I found a program at Seneca called CPA and they offer co-op chances if you’re a full time student. While this isn’t too costly it does take 3 years to complete. I currently have a bachelors in Mathematics, but I did not graduate with high scores. I worry that 3 years of me not working might have a huge impact on future interviews, and that if I apply to Masters I won’t get in. My parents said if I do take this route they will support me so I can get a higher chance to break into the industry, so I’m very grateful.
I would love some advice on what I should do, any suggestions is appreciated, thank you
