Is manually moving your capital to Aelantir as Venail Optimal?
I know it will mess up your mission tree and you won't be able to form Aelnar (unless you move your capital back to Cannor later) but in my experience it's super strong to:
- Get a colonial nation in the new world so you can do the first preparation mission. This triggers the deal from the Sorncost (Might be misspelled) nobles that lets you get another colonizing bonus
- Then colonize the island off the west coast of Sarhal (Pawprint.) Don't get any other provinces in Sarhal or it will stop you from moving to the new world.
- Get 1 province in the new world that isn't part of a colonial nation.
- Manually move your capital first to Pawprint, and then to the new world. Now any new provinces you colonize will be DIRECTLY OWNED by you. Even ones in a colonial region that you already have a colonial nation in!
This is super strong since directly owning the colonies allows you to economically snowball much earlier, allowing you to finance even more colonies with all your strong but temporary colonizing buffs. Not to mention you don't have to worry about your colonial nations getting attacked, since you won't have any, except for one tucked away from any natives or adventurers that would attack it.
Furthermore your military will be in a stronger position from your strong economy and direct development, and you'll be able to have a large mercenary army (Elves have no manpower) to be able to attack and vassalize the adventurer nations, and annexing any you don't have the diplo slots for. (If you vassalize them they colonize for you, and you can always diplo-annex them and culture convert or accept later if their cultures bother you.)
I know colonies will colonize for you, but in my experience they colonize too slowly for it to be effective. Also, staying as Venail like this allows you to avoid the scripted disaster, which will cripple casual players.
The downside of course is that it locks you out of your mission tree further down the line, but like I said, if you really want to become Aelnar and do your missions you can just move your capital out of the new world again. (Ideally after you complete the third and final immigration step mission and it's negative modifier runs out.)
I've done a few runs with Venail testing this out and by 1520 I can reliably get around 800 direct development and as many adventurer vassals as I have diplo slots for, becoming the #1 GP barring a mythic conqueror Lorent eating Gawed or something.
