Clarity on medical caregiver card
Hey all,
I want to explain my situation and see if I can get some input because the only other post I can find on this sub had some responses that went against what I was told by my lgs.
In November last year I decided to get rid of my caregiver card that was attached to my fiancé’s medical card. She rarely needs me to go to the store for her so we decided since I was applying for my CCL at the time that it was better to just cancel it and relinquish it.
Reading on the ISP website, it explains that as a cardholder you are not allowed to purchase guns until your card is relinquished or one year after the last time you used cannabis was. However, I had a caregiver card, which does not allow me to use it, just buy, possess, and deliver it to my qualified patient.
My lgs said that either way it has to be one year and a day after it was cancelled to be eligible for purchase. However, the only other searchable post in the sub regarding caregiver purchase eligibility has responses that say I should be good to go since I am technically not the user. I just don’t want to be flagged for a denial on NICS for something dumb like that, but, I have passed up many great deals since relinquishing and if I am truly eligible to purchase legally from an ffl before the year and one day, that would be awesome.
If anyone has any genuine experience or input on this situation, it’s greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
