Revolution for ecology
Does it just ever hit anyone how young our society is and how our current problems of today have only been realized as actual problems not too long ago? Like for example, Aldo Leopolds’ Land Ethic was finished 74 years ago (I believe), in this he outlined the need for people to change our ethical viewpoints on nature to a degree which previously didn’t exist. He says that we are all connected and that we need to look out for each component or nothing will survive. And another major example is Rachel Carsons Silent Spring, this was finished in 1962, it talks in depth about what we are doing to our world when we use pesticides and herbicides. Its just amazing to think that since the time these ideas were first voiced, there has only been a few generations born (Even my own dad was alive when these came to revelation). We are so worried about what we are doing to our ecosystem (and rightly so) and how to fix it quick, that we don’t even realize that change usually takes place over several generations and this revolution that we need ultimately may not even happen in our life time.
